The Past Continuous

 

The Past Continuous tense is used to describe actions which were in progress at a particular time   the past.

The Past Simple The Past Continuous

 We use it for 2 or more  actions which  happened one after the other:

 He got up, went to the bathroom  and had a shower.

 1  We use it for 2 actions going on at the    same time in the past:

 I was reading a book WHILE/AS my  brother was listening to music.

 2   A long action was going on when it was  „interrupted“ by a short one:

 WHILE/AS he was driving, he saw a car  crash.  OR

 He was driving WHEN he saw a car crash.
