The Wonderful World of Insects
Autor: Nina Čalić, 11. 12. 2014.
Insects are the most diverse and numerous group of animals. There are more species of insects than any other land animals put together. They are a class of invertebrates that have a three-part body (a head, a thorax, an abdomen), compound eyes and a pair of antennae.
an invertebrate /ɪnˈvɜːtɪbrət/ an animal with no spine (beskralježnjak)
a cicada /sɪˈkɑːdə/ a large insect which produces a high continuous sound (cvrčak)
an exoskeleton /ˌeksəʊˈskelɪtən/ the external skeleton that supports and protects an animal's body, in contrast to the internal skeleton (endoskeleton) of a human.
an antenna /ænˈtenə/ a singular noun
antennae /ænˈteni/ a plural noun
Antennae are also called feelers /ˈfiːləz/ because insects touch things with them.
